A fresh start

Speaking of a start... How do I actually start this? At the beginning you would say... But I've never blogged and so much has happened in the past few years. Having a demanding job, Covid that came by uninvited, suddenly working from home, then back to the office, my boyfriend in the middle of a reorganization and therefore having to think about the future. Ending up in a burnout and having to figure out what I want for myself was the icing on the cake... When this last thing happens we are already halfway through 2022. At this point Dion has thought so much that he says "I would like to go on sabbatical to become a diving instructor during this period, and we really need to take a break too". Sounds like a good plan, but when should this happen, I thought. And then I hear the following: March 2023...

I couldn't really choose between screaming in panic or speechlessness out of shock. Dancing out of enthusiasm didn't even cross my mind. For now, let's skip the emotions and fast-forward to the outcome of this conversation: We're going on sabbatical and leaving on the 1st of March. Now we're counting down to a fresh start!

This is us at Loch Ness on our road trip through Scotland (2019). Here we discovered our love for travel and adventure

The planning

There isn't really one actually... Everyone who knows me knows how I live: With a plan. But it is precisely the intention to let go of control! So we currently have a one way ticket to Bali and we know we will stay there for 4 months. We have also booked an apartment for this period. During our holiday in Bali in 2022, we spent a number of nights in this same apartment. So we are not completely unprepared. The reason we will stay in the same place for 4 months is because Dion's training will take so much time. What do I do during that period and what will happen in the last 3 months of our sabbatical? Not an idea! I do hope to find a remote job so that I can slowly enter the (digital) workplace again.

Whatever happens, I'll write about it on this site so that family and friends (especially those without Instagram) know what we're all up to. That's it for now. We are going to prepare for the adventure of a lifetime and you can read more about that in the next piece. Until then!

Love,

Diana
